Who We Are
The Tamarindo Community provides a dynamic environment for the small rural town of Guarjila, El Salvador.
The Tamarindo offers numerous programs for youth and their families. Our work focuses on six core points:
- Empower
- Create
- Construct
- Build
- Form
- Develop
- Discern
We empower youth to dream and develop life skills which will enable them to discern a future with dignity. We create organization and leadership through educational opportunity, diverse recreational programming, and micro-business development.
Construct community through a disciplined rule of life, spirituality and generous service to one another.
Form socially responsible and active lifestyle with environmental conscience by fostering a relationship with the natural environment of El Salvador.
Build responsible citizens by engaging youth in civic action and duty.

Our Purpose
The Tamarindo project was originally started to facilitate healing and build community in an area torn apart and devastated by war.
Today the Tamarindo takes on an even more important role in Guarjila. Family disintegration and lack of economic opportunity are presenting the greatest challenges for Guarjila and the people of El Salvador. The Tamarindo is working to keep families together by educating youth and creating economic opportunity.
Our programs include: university and high school scholarships, personal development, community service, literacy for children and adults, micro-business, ecotourism, tour cycling, indoor/outdoor soccer & in-line hockey leagues, and art enrichment. We also host international delegations from universities, parishes and high schools.
